The Top 5 Video Game Villains

Have you ever been playing a video game and the main antagonist just isn’t that interesting? “I’m going to take over the world”, the villain says, but you just feel kind of “eh” about it? Well, today we’re going to be going over the top 5 video game villains and just why they are the greatest at being bad.

Bowser
5. Bowser (The Super Mario Series)

Bowser has been a thorn in Mario’s side almost since the game’s release. Always finding a way to mess up the Italian plumber’s plans, Bowser earns his way onto the #5 spot. His large reptilian self makes him a formidable foe for Mario. And on top of all of that, he kidnaps Princess Peach a bajllion different times! Talk about getting jealous. That ironically is what makes him a great villain; the fact that he keeps taking the thing Mario loves most and will do anything to get it.

4. Shao Kahn (Mortal Kombat)

For those who have played a whole lot of Mortal Kombat over the years, you know just how menacing and rage-inducing Shao Kahn can be. Not only does he try and enslave everyone in Earthrealm, but he likes to toy around with them in his fighting arena. You thought that was bad on it’s own? Try beating his A.I. when it’s set on the hardest difficulty level. It’d probably be easier to try and cut down a tree with scissors than to beat Shao Kahn on that difficulty.

3. Ganon (The Legend of Zelda)
Ganon

To many, Ganon just seems like another being trying to take over the world. But he is a more dynamic character than just that. Ganon takes on many different forms throughout the Zelda games and each one is completely different than the last. From a spiritual being to a huge physical opponent, Ganon poses a threat no matter who you are. The addition to him in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate(Through the classic game-mode; I just beat him as Young Link before writing this) was another great idea from Nintendo. Adding a classic rival to Link really makes the game-mode worth playing.

2. Team Rocket (Pokémon)
Team Rocket

“Prepare for trouble! And make it double!” Almost no one beats the evil organization known as Team Rocket. Team Rocket were in many of the first Pokémon games as well as a few recent ones. Always trying to steal Ash’s Pikachu because it was an anomaly in the world, Jesse and James always “blasted off againnnnn!” after their swift defeats. These two are so high on this list just from the nostalgia they bring. I grew up playing Pokémon on the Gameboy Color, and I didn’t despise anyone more than Team Rocket.

1. GLaDOS (Portal 1 & 2)

“Speaking of curiosity: you’re curious about what happens after you die, right? Guess what: I know.” Just hearing that gave me the heebie-jeebies. GLaDOS takes the top spot on our list because of the peaceful tone and sadistic behavior she has towards the player. Just calmly telling the player that she’s going to capture them forever and force them to do tests for the rest of their life is just flat out sadistic. Unfortunately, you have to work alongside her in Portal 2, but that doesn’t change all the stuff she’s done in the past.
